What to pack in your suitcase before a long trip?

Are you happy that the doors to digital nomadism have finally opened to you? You probably hesitated for a long time before choosing the first destination where your temporary office will be located. Now that your flight is booked, your excitement is growing. It must, however, be mixed with some apprehensions. Among the latter, there is surely the fear of forgetting to take essential things with you. You are also wondering how not to fall into excess luggage when you are preparing to take a long trip.

Discover our checklist which will help you prepare your expedition and take all the items you will need on site.

The necessary documents

Obligatory papers and documents are of course the first things to put in your luggage. Carefully check that your passport is valid so as not to be refused access to the airport, once you have reached your teleworking destination. Copies of your identity documents may also be necessary so that you do not have to carry the original everywhere and risk losing it. Also be sure to have all the legal and administrative documentation useful for your trip (visa, insurance…).

Your various payment methods

During your stay as a digital nomad, you will surely need your international bank card. But whether you have one or not, we also recommend that you take it upon yourself to cash. In euros or converted into local currency, you will surely need it to pay for various services. And besides, whether for your payment methods or for your documents, we recommend that you invest in a secret travel pouch to secure your belongings.

Your work tools

Don't let your enthusiasm for this new way of life make you forget your essentials. So don't forget your PC, your smartphone and your chargers to always remain reachable by your colleagues. It is also the only way to be able to carry out the missions for which your company has recruited you. If you are worried about not being able to benefit from a good connection, you can invest in a data package or in a 4G key that you will take with you.

An adapter

An adapter is one of the other essentials when you need the technology to work well while traveling, and even outside of it. Indeed, some countries do not have the same formats of electrical outlets than ours. And if you don't buy such an accessory, you will be unable to use your PC charger, your razor or even your hair dryer.

PC support

Teleworking from anywhere during your long trip will require other accessories that can make your life easier and your mission more enjoyable. A thin, light and sturdy PC stand will allow you to work anywhere without getting tired from your uncomfortable position in front of the screen. A noise canceling headphones can also be useful so that you can enjoy the beautiful panoramas of your host country without being disturbed by the noise pollution around you.

A pharmacy kit

If you suffer from a chronic pathology, do not hesitate to take your treatment with you. Please note that you have the right to ask your treating doctor to provide you with prescriptions for one year. Above all, don't forget your prescription. Also take with you certain medications that can still be used: paracetamol, vitamins, arnica, sore throat tablets… Also pack a thermometer, soothing cream and bandages in your suitcase.

The product of your lenses

And if you are nearsighted, farsighted or astigmatic, we suggest that you take good care of your glasses, and if possible, take a second pair with you. The same goes if you are more of a contact lens fan. And in this case, don't forget to take the moisturizing drops and disinfectant solution. This will prevent you from any inconvenience when working or discovering the region you have chosen.

A backpack

Can also be used as luggage or can be carried in yours, a backpack light and robust must be the ally of every worker in the world. It will allow you to take your PC and the things you need for your tourist outings with you. This way, you will easily travel to discover the various regions of the country from which you will work.

Some items that have sentimental value

The excitement of arriving in an unknown land and being able to discover it while working and receiving a salary is indisputable. However, sometimes you may feel a little blue because you miss your country, your friends and your loved ones. To prevent this, remember to take with you pictures or (light!) objects that remind you of them.

Local spices

Swap your travel kit full of shampoos and shower gels, which you can easily buy from any corner of the world, for another type of bag. Indeed, we suggest you take with you a commodity that promises to be rare where you will be. So, if you are a foodie and the flavors of dishes from your country you might miss, slip local spices into your suitcase. They will enhance your dishes and give you comfort at the end of your busy days between visits, discoveries and work.
